El Cerrito Sports Camp

 

We specialize in non-competitive, co-ed activities.

Safety, fun, and learning are our priorities, the emphasis

being on participation in an instructive, recreational setting.

Program history:

Berkeley JCC, spring and summer 1991. 

City of El Cerrito, September,1992 - December 1996.

City of Albany, June 1995 - August 2007.

City of El Cerrito, September, 2007- present.


We estimate that since we began, way back when, approximately

6,500 boys and girls have attended at least one of our programs. 

At least half began at the age of four or five!

Sunday Soccer & Baseball   

We will be at Canyon Trail Park this spring through the end of June. 

After a hiatus for the summer, the Sunday program willl pick up again

on September 27 in the same location.  

The Soccer & Baseball Registration Form may be downloaded from this site, and on-site registration is always possible.  In fact, you may come any Sunday and join us for a pro-rated fee based on your starting date.

Summer Sports Camp

Located at Cerrito Vista Park just across the street from the Community Center on Moeser Lane, our headquarters is easy to recognize.  Two large blue canopies with several tables and plenty of chairs sitting in the middle of the park are impossible to miss.

We will visit the El Cerrito Pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays; the Portola gymnasium on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Enrolling in the Summer Camp is easy.  When you go to the Summer Camp page, you will find a link at 12. Registration.

As always, on-site registration, for full weeks and daily drop-ins, will be cheerfully accepted.   All the necessary Registration Forms will be available throughout the summer at out camp site at Cerrito Vista Park.

DirectorNorm Friedman; program founder. 

Norm has had affiliations with several Recreation Departments and approximately 30 East Bay schools over the past twenty years, teaching a variety of sports, chess, and cartooning, and conducting sports camps.

Factoids about Norm:  an excellent blues harmonica player... won a physical fitness contest at age 15... nationally rated chess expert... favorite sports to play during younger days: baseball and fast-pitch softball... ran for City Council in Albany in 2000... favorite moment of his life was watching his father catch Roy Campanella's last home run on August 17, 1957 at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn.


Assistant Director:  Joel Gildersleeve. 

Joel supervises our 4-5 year olds on Sunday, and during the Summer Camp is our main on-site coordinator.  On board since 1999, Joel became our Assistant Director in 2001. 

Factoids about Joel:  credentialed teacher in the Albany Unified School District... guitarist and singer/song-writer... loves to tell strange stories to the kids... likes camping, gardening, and coconut flavored soy drinks.
