Norm Friedman, Director

Norm's programs in the early 1990's, at the Berkeley-Richmond JCC (1991), and at the El Cerrito Community Center (1992-1996), led to what would eventually become Albany Sports Camp. 

During the past twenty years Norm has taught classes in Sports, Chess, & Cartooning at approximately 30 East Bay schools.

In 1995, Norm helped create a pilot program of child care at the Castro and Fairmont Elementary Schools in El Cerrito.

Affiliations: Berkeley Department of Park & Recreation, LeConte School Summer Day Camp for handicapped children, Community Centers of Piedmont, El Cerrito, and Albany, and the Berkeley-Richmond Jewish Community Center. 

 

Joel Gildersleeve, Assistant Director 

Joel, who has been with us since 1999,  is a credentialed teacher in the Albany Unified School district. 

Joel is the main man on site during our Summer Camp.

Primary responsibility for the 4-5 age group during our Sunday Soccer & Baseball program rests in his capable hands.

Tara Chadha

Tara joined us this spring, helping Joel with the 4-5 year olds in our Sunday program.  She will be a welcome additon to our Sports Camp staff this summer at Cerrito Vista Park.

Amaya Fernandez 

Another new counselor.  Amanda, who played on a very successful Girls Softball Team this spring , will be bringing her effervescent spirit to our Camp this summer.   Welcome aboard!

Julius Walker

A graduate of Cal State Hayward and currently employed in the Emeryville School District, Julius brings a wealth of experience as teacher, tutor, and sports organizer.  Welcome aboard!

Jacob Harris

 

Jacob joined our staff for the 2007 Summer Sports Camp.  He is back with us for a second summer, bringing lots of great energy.

Phillip Coffin

An experienced camp director in his own right, Phillip joined us in the fall of 2007, immediately making a favorable impression and contributing greatly to the success of our Sunday program at Canyon Trail Park. (N/A this summer)

Charles Holder

A long time ago, Charles was a participant for several years.  He returned at age 14 as an assistant coach.  Now 22, Charles is one of our 'reserves'.  Look for him with the older children on Sundays.

 

David Platford

With us on and off over the past eight years, David is a talented artist whose work has been exhibited at several galleries in the Bay Area.  He is also actively involved in an international non-profit project, bringing art supplies and instruction to children of third world countries.

David coaches on Sundays and fills in during the Summer Camp when he is not several thousand miles away.  This summer he is off to Morocco.  Bon voyage!
